Summer Transportation Institute

Summer Transportation Institute is a program available to rising juniors and seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA.  It is designed to create awareness and opportunities regarding careers available in the transportation industry.  STI is a non-residential 5-week program at the University of NC at Pembroke, offered through UNCP's Regional Center.  This program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and the NC Department of Transportation.

This program will consist of workshops, presenters, and fieldtrips which will allow students to explore transportation industry careers.  A Washington DC trip is scheduled the 5th week and on the last day students will participant in a presentation of their experiences for family and friends.  In addition, students will receive a stipend in the amount of $125.00 per week.

Please use the following link to access an application.  2012 Applications are not available at this time but should be posted by May, 2012; and will be due in June 2012.

  1. Wow, what a wonderful opportunity for students! This would provide a great experience for students that have probably never considered the possibilities associated with the transportation industry. Not to mention, a stipend and a trip to DC. Thanks so much for the link, our counselor usually sends out information on summer programs like this so we can inform our students. However, I have not seen this one in her listings. If you don't mind I will pass on the link to her and my students, especially since we are just a short distance from Pembroke.
